Jennifer & Brooks Sarasota/Manatee County Wedding!

Posted in Weddings tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , at 2:27 pm by JBEvents

One very important attribute when planning a wedding is flexibility.  Jennifer certainly had to exercise her flexibility while planning her wedding.

The original venue selected contacted her a few months before the wedding to inform Jennifer that they would no longer be hosting weddings, so she had to select a new venue.  Once the new venue was selected, it was then time to revise the decor theme.  She wanted the theme to be vintage, so she set out visiting antique stores and thrift shops in search of all kinds of lace doily’s.   These looked so pretty on top of the purple table cloths.  She also found purple mason jars which were filled with Baby’s Breath creating a soft and elegant look.  Candles were scattered about to create a romantic glow. We adorned the Sweet Heart table with a large lace overlay and glass cylinder vases trimmed with a vintage styled lace cuff to hold the brides bouquet as well as more candles.

Another thing that Jennifer had to be flexible about was the site for the ceremony.  As I tell all of my clients who plan for an outdoor ceremony (or reception), you have to be flexible and understand that should weather be inclimate, Plan B will have to be put in motion.  That is exactly what happened in this case.  A huge storm developed {typical in Florida} just as guests were arriving and so we had to very quickly move all of the chairs and some of the decor inside the screened lanai.  If you look at the ceremony photos closely, you can see if was raining heavily complete with thunder and lightening all throughout the ceremony.  After the ceremony was over, we didn’t let the rain stop us from getting some adorable photos.  I especially love the ones with the umbrella.

It was such an honor planning and producing Jennifer and Brooks wedding.  We wish them a lifetime of Happiness!!!!

Superheros were present when Ali & Chris Tied the Knot

Posted in Weddings tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 12:16 pm by JBEvents

This wedding was filled with so many personal touches and LOVE!  One of the things I always tell and encourage my clients is to bring their personalities into the wedding, therefore branding and creating a truly unique celebration!  Ali & Chris did just that.

I loved the Escort Cards display!  Ali procured photos of all of her guests which were used to inform guests of their table assignment.  She made adorable signage  that said “Find your Face to Find Your Place”.  Very unique and creative.

The groom and his party wore superhero shirts that they had fun exposing during the photos.  Even his cake topper had a superhero cape.   Super cute!!!

Ali & Chris wore custom converse sneakers monogrammed with Mr. J and Mrs. J.

Guests received personalized ceramic coasters as their favors to remember the wonderful wedding!

We wish Ali & Chris a lifetime of Happiness!!!!

DIY, Pinterest and Stress…What they have in common!

Posted in Other Events, Planning Tips and Information, Weddings tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , at 10:00 am by JBEvents

Since the inception of Pinterest, I have seen a rise in the level of stress my clients endure in the planning of their wedding or special event.  While we can effectively use Pinterest as well as other sources for inspiration it should not be used to create a “must have” for every image or item shown.

someecards-pintervention

Creating storyboards for clients has been a longstanding method of organizing ideas and visions, however, with many clients living out-of-state from their Planner and other vendors, sharing that board became increasingly difficult.  With Pinterest though, it is an easy process to create a “secret” Wedding Board and share it with only those involved to kick ideas back and forth.  I have used this process with clients to share specific ideas for colors, designs, attire, favors, etc., as well as for those who were having a difficult time narrowing down their specific vision.  Collecting images of various decor components that indicate potential ideas is helpful just as much as indicating styles and ideas that the client doesn’t like.  By determining ideas of interest a more streamlined and detailed outline can be made for the cohesive theme of the event.

Inspiration-Board

I encourage my clients to share their ideas with me and I love working with them to develop the branding of their event.  While using images as an inspiration, I always recommend putting a unique touch to the overall idea so that it is not just a copy of someone else’s design.  Each client is unique and so their event should also be unique.  One such example of this was the following image that was provided as something the bride LOVED.  I then took that image and worked with the floral designer (Chelsea Floral Design Studio) to create a similar look while staying within the budget and style of the other decor being used. The end result was gorgeous and my client was overjoyed.

We have discussed some good ideas of how to use Pinterest, but there is also a down side.  This is where the stress comes in!  Finding images of tons of ideas you would like to incorporate and thinking that you must have every single one.  Now, I agree that there are some ideas that you find that would be excellent to incorporate, but just don’t go overboard.  With every idea comes time and money.  Both of which are considered a budget item.  Trying to create or provide every little detail you see will not only create stress, but it can also take away from the overall design and feel of the event.  Remember, keeping things cohesive is what makes an event truly stand out.

Why Hire a Wedding Planner?

Posted in Planning Tips and Information, Weddings tagged , , , , , , , , , , , at 9:25 am by JBEvents

n-WOMAN-STRESSED-628x314

Stressed Bride

There are so many things that a professional Wedding/Event Planner can assist with to make planning your wedding or special event easier and less stressful.

Let me first ask this question –

How many hours on average does it take to plan a wedding?

A.  25-50 hrs   B.  100-150 hrs   C:  150-300 hrs   D:  400-600 hrs                                           (Read on to find out the answer)

When consulting with my clients, I am listening to pick up on information not only for the vision of the event but for other specific things that can impact the overall details of planning and the stress level of the client.  For instance, if the client has very limited time to spend planning the wedding, they should select a full-service planning package.  While the cost of the full-service package might be more of the budget than anticipated, care should be given to consider all that the Planner is able to do, from sourcing and securing the venue and proposals, to developing the vision, negotiating contracts, maintaining the budget, providing guidance on etiquette, consult on custom stationery and event branding, design a floor plan, construct a wedding day schedule, communicate with all vendors, as well as orchestrating the entire event to ensure a smooth and flawless wedding, to just name a few. There are so many tasks that a Planner handles behind the scenes to ensure that any emergencies are handled without the client having to know, we keep things running smoothly to ensure that all vendors are able to perform their contracted services in a timely manner and we handle packing up all of your items at the end of the reception so that you or your family don’t have to.   All of these details require many hours to complete and as a bride with already restricted time constraints as well as not being familiar with all that goes into planning a wedding – the stress factor drastically increases.

If you choose option D in the question above for the number of hours to plan a wedding, you are correct!!!!  Yes, that’s correct – 400 – 600 hours to plan a wedding from start to finish. If you consider how much time you have available between the time you become engaged until your wedding, keeping in mind your work/school schedule as well as having personal time as well, this will help you to determine just how much help you may need.  A professional planner can save you time since we will already know the venues and vendors to contact based upon your budget and vision, whereas trying to do this on your own is a daunting task.

Stressed bride ecard

Many times brides will think that hiring a planner is a luxury, but considering that we can provide referrals to appropriate vendors to accommodate the budget, style and overall vision which can result in discounts that would not be garnered on your own, the savings can balance out the fee for our service. Not only that, but don’t forget, we are able to save you time and that is something you can’t put a price tag on.  One thing I always tell my clients is that it is important to maintain and cultivate your relationship during the planning process because you are preparing for a MARRIAGE not just the wedding day.

Some times brides think that a wedding planner will insist on the vision for the wedding, but that is not the case (at least with my company).  We are there to offer suggestions and provide advice, and to align our client with the best vendors to achieve the vision.  My goal is to always produce the wedding my couple desires.  While I have had clients task me with making all of the decisions, that certainly is not the norm.

If you or someone you know is getting married, do yourself or them a favor and have them contact us so that you/they can experience stressfree planning and a flawless wedding.

Check back soon for more helpful planning tips!

Grace & Wiley’s Vineyard Wedding

Posted in Weddings tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 2:20 pm by JBEvents

grace_bridal_371

Gorgeous, romantic, and touching are just a few words that come to mind to describe this wedding.

You couldn’t help but feel the love between Grace & Wiley, especially with the way they looked at each other and the gentle caresses they shared throughout the day.  Surrounded by their closest friends and family, they began the next chapter in their Love Story.

The venue selected, Chateau Elan, held special meaning for the bride as she won an equestrian competition there when she was younger.  Her bridal portraits at the Chateau Elan Equestrian Center were filled with fond memories and beauty ~ as you will see.

An A-Team worked together to create this amazing (and flawless) wedding.  The ladies began their day at the Spa for relaxing massages then returned back to the bridal suite for their Hair and Make-up services provided by The Moore Agency.  Floral design was by the creative genius of JWilbur of EventScapes. The elegant, romantic, vintage theme was expertly carried out with beautiful lace linens atop blue linens accented with lush white florals and mercury glass.   David Gilleland officiated the ceremony and made it so personal and meaningful.  Eric Larkins through Marquee Events provided the ceremony music on his classical guitar setting the tone for the wedding. My favorite pastry chef, Mark Lotti of Classic Cheesecakes and Cakes, created both the wedding and groom’s cake.  Guests were entertained by the Deadfields band, also booked through Marquee Events for the reception.  They were fantastic! A special surprise solo of the theme song from “Frozen”, was performed by the bride for her new husband.  It was definitely a huge hit. Personalized bottles of wine were given as favors – which was perfect since the reception was held in the Cask Room of the winery at Chateau Elan.

Guests were heard raving about the wedding saying it was the best celebration they had ever attended and most importantly, Grace and Wiley said that the day couldn’t have been any better and that it was perfect.  These are words we love to hear!!

The beautiful images provided are from Shaun and Shannon Menary.  This couple was so much fun to work with and I’m sure you will agree, the photos are gorgeous!!

We wish Grace & Wiley a lifetime of Happiness!!!! We enjoyed being a part of their special day!

Rho & Davon’s Beautiful Wedding

Posted in Weddings tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 8:58 am by JBEvents

We had so much fun working with this couple to plan their beautiful wedding!!

We selected Hyatt Regency Atlanta at Villa Christina for the venue.  The decor of the Hotel creates such a lovely backdrop.

Rho and her bridal party selected their gowns from Alfred Angelo.  The bridal party wore a Jade hue, while the Maid of Honor wore Teal.  Rho’s shoes were AMAZING teal, Badgley Mischka peep-toe pumps.

Davon and his guys looked handsome in their tuxedos from Savvi.

One of the Bride’s bridesmaids provided the hair styling for the day and the girls assisted each other with their make-up.

The couple created a very unique Ceremony Program.  Guests were entertained by reading facts about the couple and their relationship as well as seeing how many States were represented by those attending.

0210H

Chelsea Floral Design Studio successfully created the bride’s vision with the personal flowers and reception decor.  The designs were classic and elegant with a slightly contemporary twist.

Hilarye from Fotographa captured the amazing images of the day and you can enjoy them below.

Also on hand was Joseph Leone, of Leone Productions creating the wedding video so that the couple can relive the day over and over.

The linens, provided by CoverUps, created the perfect look in the Ballroom to carry out the Teal and Black theme.

One of the more contemporary touches was the wedding cake created by the Pastry Chef at the venue.  With a base of simple white, Teal and Black ribbons were placed artistically on the cake to give a geometric visual presentation.

Marquee Events provided the music for the ceremony and the reception and as always were excellent.

The couple was surrounded by love from their closest friends and family and the joy could be felt by everyone.

The team of vendors were exceptional and we were honored to have partnered with each one to create another flawless wedding!

We wish Rho & Davon a lifetime of happiness!!!!!

Happy Valentine’s Day!!!

Posted in Other Events, Planning Tips and Information tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 10:00 am by JBEvents

In just a few days, we will be celebrating the most romantic Holiday of the year – Valentine’s Day!  If you are wondering what you can do for your sweetie that would be fun, romantic and special, I would like to offer a few ideas.

LOVE with roses

The day of love, when we celebrate with hearts and chocolates with the special person in our lives – or if you are single, we call this Single Awareness Day.  Regardless, you can’t go into any store without seeing heart-shaped boxes of chocolates, Teddy Bears, bouquets of roses and greeting cards espousing words of love.  But you may be wondering what you could do for the one you love that might be a little more personal, special or different.

For the most personal and special, try writing a love letter to your significant other.  Rather than purchasing a card with verses created from the pen of a stranger, write your own instead.  You don’t have to be a poet, just write from the heart.  This makes the words more special because it’s personal and shows that you took the time to think it through and say things that you might not have ever said.

Love letters

There is always the option of going out for dinner – whether to your favorite restaurant or to one you’ve always wanted to try.  Since many people will have that same idea, you may have a long wait if you didn’t make reservations.  Instead of going out, you could make dinner at home.  Now I realize this may not sound romantic or even fun, but you can make it special.  Select a menu consisting of items that the two of you can make together.  Pour a glass of wine, put on some music and share the tasks for preparing the delicious meal.  Or, for an extra special meal that is created using some amazing products from my favorite specialty Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar store, Branch and Vine, try out the recipes below created by store owner, Tracey Jenkins.  You can purchase many of the products in the recipes at Branch and Vine located in Newnan and Peachtree City.

Chipotle-Serrano Rib-Eye Steaks

Ingredients :

Four  8-10 oz. Rib-eye steaks

1/2 cup Branch & Vine Serrano Honey Vinegar

1/2 cup Branch & Vine Chipotle Olive Oil

1 Tbsp. h.e.r.b Steakhouse Seasoning (available at Branch & Vine)

Directions

Combine vinegar and Steakhouse Seasoning. Slowly whisk in olive oil.  Place steak in a zip lock bag or in a single layer non-reactive pan or container. Pour the marinade over the streaks and massage marinade into steaks. Cover and refrigerate, allow in marinate for a minimum of 2 hours or up to 6 hours.

Prepare a medium charcoal or gas grill and cook to desired doneness. Allow to rest for ten minutes before serving.

Serves 4. (The left-overs will be great the next day)

Asiago & Truffle Mashed Potatoes

Ingedients :
3 pounds Yukon Gold (or red skinned) potatoes, unpeeled
1 Tbsp Branch & Vine Butter Flavored Olive Oil
2 Tbsp Branch & Vine Garlic Infused Olive Oil
2 Tbsp unsalted butter
1 medium clove garlic
1/2 cup half & half, plus extra if needed  (low or no-fat is ok)
1/2 tablespoon Branch & Vine Black Truffle Oil
1/2 cup freshly grated Asiago Cheese, plus a little for finishing sprinkle
1 Tbsp Pacific Ocean Sea Salt (for boiling water) (available at Branch & Vine)
Sel Gris or Pink Himalayan s.a.l.t. & (available at Branch & Vine)  / fresh cracked black pepper to taste
Optional:  Finely chopped, fresh flat leaf parsley for garnish

Dice potatoes, making sure all are relatively the same size.  Place in a large saucepan add the Pacific Ocean salt, and cover with hot water.  Bring to a boil over medium-high heat and then reduce heat to maintain a rolling boil.  Cook until potatoes are tender throughout when poked with a fork.  Heat the half-and-half, oil, butter and the garlic in a medium saucepan over medium heat until simmering, watching carefully so it doesn’t scorch.  Remove from heat and set aside.  Remove the potatoes from the heat and drain off the water.  Mash and add the garlic-cream-butter mixture, grated Asiago and truffle oil.  Stir to combine, adding extra half & half if too dry.  Salt and pepper to taste.  Let stand for 5 minutes so that mixture thickens.  When ready to serve, drizzle extra olive oil over the top and sprinkle with grated Asiago and fresh parsley for garnish.

Asparagus with Roasted Tomatoes, Balsamic Reduction and Goat Cheese

Ingredients :
1 lb fresh asparagus, washed and tough ends removed
1 pk grape tomatoes, 1/2 cut in half lengthwise  and leave other 1/2 whole
2 Tbsp + 2 Tbsp Branch & Vine Garlic Infused Olive Oil  (could also use Branch & Vine’s Lemon or Persian Lime Oils)
1 tsp + 1tsp Fleur de Sel or Sel Gris s.a.l.t. (available at Branch & Vine)
Mild goat cheese  (can sub with feta if you like it beta)
freshly ground pepper to taste
3/4 cup Branch & Vine Serrano-Honey Vinegar, reduced by 1/2   (you can substitute with several others, such as Traditional)
Directions
  • Preheat oven to 300F.
  • In small mixing bowl, toss whole tomatoes, 1 Tbsp Olive, 1/2 tsp s.a.l.t. and a sprinkle of pepper to coat well.  Pour tomatoes onto parchment paper lined baking sheet (make sure to get all the oil too!)  Bake at 300 degrees for approx 30-40 minutes. You want them blistered slightly but not bursting.   Once they are in the oven…
  • Place Serrano-Honey Vinegar in sauce pan and heat on low to med-low.  Do not allow to boil! Simmer until reduced by 1/3 to 1/2.   Remove from heat.  It will continue to thicken as it cools.  You want syrup consistency.  If it is too think once it cools, you can return to very low heat and stir in a little extra, non-reduced S-H Vinegar.  (Don’t get frustrated, it takes a few times to know when to remove it the first time)  This can also be done a day or two before!
  • Toss the halved tomatoes as you did with the whole and set aside.
  • Pat asparagus dry. Place on parchment lined baking sheet in single layer to one side, then drizzle with 2 Tbsp of olive oil to coat well.  Sprinkle with salt and pepper.  Add the halved tomatoes on the other side of baking sheet.
  • When whole tomatoes have been in the oven for 20 minutes, put the asparagus and halves in for the last 20 minutes.  Cook until the asparagus just barely begin to get wrinkled.
  • Remove pans as they are finished.  Arrange asparagus and halved tomatoes on platter or plates, crumble cheese on top and then drizzle with reduction.
  • Use whole tomatoes as a plate garnish next to your steak and potatoes.

Don’t want to cook, then how about ordering a meal from your favorite gastro pub and take it home, plating it up, setting the table with nice linens and candles and enjoy it in the privacy of your home.  There is nothing wrong with serving pre-made items – reduces the mess, but can still be tasty.  You can find prepared items at your local grocery store or a gourmet market.  Don’t forget the wine and/or champagne.

Many couples find Valentine’s day a perfect time to stay overnight in a hotel.  You can arrange to have a rose-petal turn down and champagne and chocolates delivered to your room for that special touch.  If you decide to stay at home, turn your bedroom into a special escape by placing lighted candles around the room, place rose petals as a path to the bedroom and the bed.  Have a chilled bottle of champagne waiting and maybe even serve dessert.  Take a bubble bath together – just relax and enjoy each other!

Speaking of Fifty Shades of Grey, why not create your own celebration, Christian Grey style.  Invite your significant other to visit your personal Red Room of Luxury.  Have soft lighting, candles, blindfold, and maybe some fuzzy handcuffs.  Or, arrange for a helicopter tour of Atlanta at night – complete with champagne.  Ideas abound for fun ways to bring in the immensely popular book trilogy by E. Regardless of how you decide to celebrate Valentine’s Day, just keep in mind to be creative and personal with your plans and enjoy the time you are spending together – because after all, the purpose of the day is to celebrate your love and having quality time together is what’s most important. Of course sparkling gifts {like diamonds} is never a bad idea!  Maybe a fabulous idea would be a gift with a “sparkling” theme….diamonds and champagne!!!!!

Fairy Tales Do Come True for Megan & Marcos!

Posted in Weddings tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 10:47 am by JBEvents

Couple walking in the vineyard

You have heard me say it before and I know I will say it again, but I have the BEST clients in the world!!!!  This adorable couple hired me to plan and produce their beautiful wedding and it was such a blast.  Although the couple resides in Abu Dhabi, we successfully planned the wedding long-distance with only a couple of in-person meetings.  Megan trusted my recommendations which proved to relieve a lot of stress on her part since she couldn’t be here to meet with vendors in person.

They selected one of my favorite venues, Chateau Elan.  The ceremony took place in the Atrium with reception to follow in the Debussy Ballroom.  It was the perfect setting!!

The Moore Agency performed their always-amazing hair styling and make-up application for all of the ladies.  Their team worked as the ladies enjoyed a delicious brunch complete with a Mimosa Bar making for a fun wedding morning.

With a color palette of Tiffany, Black and Silver and plenty of glitz and glamour, the wedding vision came to life.  Chelsea Floral Designs expertly created the bride’s vision.  Megan had purchased many items along the way that she wanted to be incorporated into the wedding, so I presented them to David and Patrick of Chelsea Floral, who in turn took the items and used them in creative ways for one-of-a-kind stunning decor.  The hanging chandelier over the sweetheart table was breath-taking!

Catherine Rogers provided ceremony music on her harp. The sound was magical echoing throughout the Atrium of Chateau Elan.

Honeymoon Bakery created the wedding and Groom’s cake.  In perfect keeping with the Tiffany Blue theme, the pastry chef designed the wedding cake to look like Tiffany boxes.  The bride surprised the groom with an adorable groom’s cake paying homage to his participation in triathlons.

Marquee Events, DJ Matt, kept the crowd energized and on the dance floor throughout the evening.  Everyone had a fantastic time.

Joseph Leone of Leone Productions provided the videography service and did a great job of capturing the joy and excitement of the day.

Guests had a great time posing for photos in the photo booth provided by ShutterBooth.

Special thanks to Katherine Birkbeck for sharing the gorgeous wedding photos included.  She was a true pleasure to work with and quite an artistic photographer!  I’m sure you will enjoy viewing the lovely images below!

We wish Megan & Marcos a continued lifetime of happiness!!!  Thank you for allowing Janice Blackmon Events to be a part of your special day!!

GPPA Celebration

Dr.Scott.0001

I have had the pleasure of planning and producing two weddings for the Scott family, so when Dr. Scott contacted me about assisting with a celebration for the medical practice he began almost 30 years ago I was beyond honored.

The Atlanta History Center was selected as the venue – which was quite fitting for this momentous occasion.  With the renovation just complete, we were one of the first parties held there.  The new Lobby of the Museum is so beautiful and provides a blank slate for whatever the decor vision may be.  The Exhibition Galleries served as the location for Cocktails as guests arrived and began to mingle.  The guest list included both current and previous employees of the practice as well as the charitable organizations that the practice is involved with.

A step and repeat backdrop complete with the company logo was displayed in the rotunda and guests had a great time posing for photos with the incomparable Kristen Alexander Photography.

Affairs to Remember caterers provided the delectable cuisine for the evening.  Guests were treated to a dual-entree of beef tenderloin and Polenta and Red Pepper encrusted salmon.  Once dinner was complete, there was a short program that included a special presentation,  as well as acknowledgment of the charitable organizations represented and a video made especially for the event.  After the program, a dessert buffet was provided by Affairs to Remember which included an amazing Chocolate Basil Tart Pettit Four, Apple Cobbler Shot and various sweet bites including a chocolate hazelnut brownie.

Scott Mikell of Marquee Events served as emcee and DJ for the evening.  His team also produced a video for the event consisting of interviews from the employees with their remembrances of their time with the practice.  The video was indeed touching and also included several humorous messages as well.

Chelsea Floral Design Studio created the stunning floral arrangements.  We used a deep fall color palette which looked gorgeous in the Grand Overlook Ballroom.  As guests entered the ballroom, there was a table with a lush floral arrangement focal point and vintage-inspired champagne saucer flutes presented for the opening Welcome and Toast.

The evening was truly enjoyed by all who attended and provided for a time to reminisce, remember and reflect of all that the practice has accomplished during its existence.   My team and I were so honored to be a part of this special occasion!!
