Cinderella marries her Prince Charming…AKA Jessica & Rocky get married!

This truly is one of the most special weddings I have ever planned and produced, because it’s was for my oldest daughter!

I did some blogging throughout the planning process {“From Planner to MOB”} if you want to read about some of the process along the way, and I admit, I didn’t ever get to the post about her bridal shower, but maybe one of these days I’ll get that one up too.

But, let’s talk about the wedding!!!!

The original plan/desire was to have a small wedding on the beach in Sarasota, however, after considering all of the details and logistics Jessica & Rocky decided to get married here in Georgia at their church.  One of the things that meant so much to me was that they wanted a venue that held meaning to them and honestly, that makes so much sense.  I admired them for feeling this way and I think choosing their church was the perfect choice!

Once the venue and date were set, the next step was to solidify the theme.  They wanted an elegant but somewhere between vintage and shabby/chic vibe.  I immediately began scouring antique and thrift stores buying up all of the milk glass I could find, along with tons of different styles of votive holders and crystal candlesticks.  Jessica had some ideas of certain items she wanted such as an old suitcase for a card holder and another suitcase for the cake plateau.  I found a couple of old suitcases that we refurbished and we were really happy with how they turned out! {All of these items are now available for rent.  Contact us for information.}

Their colors were navy, deep coral and metallic gold.  The girls wore navy dresses and the guys wore navy tuxes with coral accents. They all looked so nice.  

The Ring Bearer was the cutest one ever!!!!!!!!! And the two Flower Girls were absolutely adorable!!!!

We knew with having Kristen Alexander as our photographer we were going to get fantastic, artistic and creative images – and she did not disappoint.  Her calm demeanor and laid-back vibe and doing whatever it takes to get jaw-dropping images is incomparable.  Her style to create lasting memories of classic photographs in a unique way is just one of the many reasons I refer my clients to her.

EventScapes Atlanta took a dark and warehousey feel of the church and made it look elegant.  The ceremony backdrop which then became the cake backdrop was gorgeous! I loved the centerpieces created in the milk glass vases.  The room looked beautiful.

Speaking of the cake, Oh-mmm-gee!!!  Mark Lotti created a design that was gorgeous and perfect.  Jessica and Rocky met with him and gave a few ideas and he came up with exactly what they wanted but weren’t able to put into words.  It’s no surprise that Mark is my go-to guy for my clients, because not only does he create amazing designs, but the cakes taste even better (and that’s saying A LOT).  

There were so many special details that were a part of the day such as Jessica’s uncle, my brother, walking her down the aisle and since her dad did not attend the wedding, she danced with her son (my precious Nanababy) instead of having  Father/Daughter dance.  It was adorable! The groom’s step-father officiated the wedding, which was so special.  It was also important to the couple to remember the family members who have passed away, so we had a memory table with photos of those special people.

Instead of a traditional guest book, the couple instead had guests sign a Bible and asked them to highlight their favorite verse or leave words of encouragement.  What a keepsake that is! 

Guests had a blast with the Photo Booth provided by ShutterBooth Atlanta.  They always do such a fabulous job.  Their equipment is top-notch and their Hosts are fun and interactive.

The vendors {friendors} that worked with us were amazing!!!!  They all outdid themselves and I (and my daughter and son-in-law) are eternally grateful.

I have to give a special SHOUT OUT to my team, Victoria and Donna!  Although I did all of the planning, schedules, vendor confirmation, etc., they took over to produce the wedding so that I could actually enjoy being the Mother of the Bride.  I have always said that I have the best and most hard-working associates of any planning firm around, and being able to experience their work and service first-hand, I am even more certain!

Kathryn & Nick’s Australia meets The South wedding

This was one of those weddings where every detail just made me giddy!  The bride and her family were some of the sweetest people I’ve had the pleasure of working with and then when I met the groom and his family I realized what a perfect union this would be!

The theme was classic, elegant vintage and romantic and I think that was shown in every detail. It was also a combination of a groom from Australia and a bride from the South with a strong family presence from New Orleans. 

 The bride’s dress – can I just say WOW!  The dress was designed by Anna Campbell and was purchased at Kelly’s Closet

A very special touch for the ceremony was that the bride’s uncle (from New Orleans) performed the sacrament of marriage at Cathedral of Christ the King.

The reception was held at The Georgian Terrace Hotel.  This venue is known as Atlanta’s Modern Classic, and that was the perfect setting for this couples wedding.

Capturing all of the beautiful moments of the day was Anna Howard.  Sending a very special thanks to her for providing the images in this post!!

David of Chelsea Floral Design Studio provided the beautiful floral’s.  The Estate Table was just gorgeous!

Cashmere Band kept the crowd hopping on the dance floor.  The Father/Daughter and the Mother/Son dances were so perfect.  The brides father is a huge Jimmy Buffet fan, so they danced to “Little Miss Magic”, while the Groom and his mom gave a nod to their Australian roots and danced to “Down Under” by Men at Work.  

A very festive celebration for the couple’s departure included a Second Line Dance.  Guests were each given a monogrammed white napkin to wave in the air and the couple had lovely parasols.  After leading a parade around and through the ballroom, the guests then exited to line the stairs for the couple to walk through.  There was so much excitement in the air that the guests wanted the party to continue – and that is how we want every wedding to end, as I say leaving ’em wanting more!

Happy 4th of July!!

The 4th of July has always been one of my favorite holiday’s.  Summertime, friends, good food and fireworks is the perfect combination for a fun time.  

Some of my fondest memories are from my late teen’s and early 20’s when a friend of mine and I would get a hotel room with a view overlooking the Sarasota Bay and have a few friends over to celebrate the 4th of July and watch the fireworks.  

The 4th of July tends to lend itself to being a great time for gathering with friends.  Barbecues or low country boils are popular themes.  Having activities for the kids as well as games for kids and adults is sure to bring out the competitive spirit in everyone.  The decor for your party can be very simple to elaborate, but having refreshing beverages and yummy food to nosh on are key.  You can get some ideas on my 4th of July Pinterest board.

If you don’t want to host a party at your home, there are many other local attractions that you can attend.  Getting a group together to go watch fireworks is still a favorite activity of mine.  Grab some cold beverages and snacks and put them in a cooler, take sparklers, glow sticks or poppers for the gang to celebrate with while waiting for the show to begin.  Don’t forget to pack the bug spray to keep those pesky little heathens from eating YOU as their snack.  :o)

 No matter how you celebrate, remember the freedoms our Country was built on, which have not come without sacrifice.  These words need to remembered not only on Independence Day, but everyday!

Alli & Brett get Handcuffed at their Wedding

As an Event Planner, you are responsible for making sure that everything goes perfectly for your clients, regardless of circumstances that are beyond your control.  This wedding was one of those events where keeping calm was KEY to making sure that the clients were unaware of all that was going behind the scenes and to make sure that the wedding went off as planned!

Let me give you a little background of the wedding day!  The wedding was held on Saturday of Gay Pride Weekend in Atlanta at the main host hotel for the viewing of the parade.  Ahead of the day, we were given a map of the slated road closures.  I made sure to provide the map as well as road closure timing to all vendors involved.  Unfortunately, the map provided was not accurate and additional roads were closed at times ahead of the previously provided scheduled times.  This of course resulted in difficulty for vendors (and even my team) to get to the Hotel timely.  Not to mention, the loading dock is located on a street that is closed for the parade! Situations from one vendor being threatened to be arrested, to two others receiving traffic citations were just a part of the day.  Of course, guests had difficulty getting to the venue as well.

What is important to note is that even with all of the issues of the day, every vendor pulled together to do whatever was necessary to create the perfect wedding for the couple.

The bride had a wonderful time getting out in the parade crowd.  Many of the parade-goers stopped her for a photo-op.  We also ran into a motorcycle officer that allowed the bride to pose with his bike.

The groom, is an Atlanta Police Officer with a great sense of humor so we were able to play around with the whole “law enforcement officer” theme,  The groom’s cake was Krispy Kreme Doughnuts.  The favors were chocolate hand-cuffs. At the end of the ceremony, the couple were hand-cuffed together as a fun surprise for all in attendance. The cake topper was a Police Officer holding his bride.  The table names were of police themed television shows and movies.  The bride is very crafty and created the signs herself.

I absolutely loved being able to incorporate the things most special to this couple to create a truly unique wedding.  That’s what it is all about!!!

One of the special attributes to pay honor to the men and women in the military and law enforcement whom have lost their lives was a “Table set for One”.  We positioned the table behind the dance floor so that it would be a prominent display throughout the evening. Another special tribute was a poem the Bride read for her Groom.  There wasn’t a dry eye in the room.

The floral decor, created by Jim White,  was stunning!  Elegant and romantic ~ pinks, blush, white and creams.  One of the focal points of the decor was the Estate Table with two tall arrangements and a floral garden centering the length of the table with lots of candles.

We had a really great group of vendors that went above and beyond extenuating circumstances to ensure a wonderful wedding for this adoring couple.  Unfortunately, professional images were not made available, so I’m sharing my snapshots.

Mazel Tov … Jessica & Avi

It was a beautiful summer day in the city appropriately named HOTlanta for the wedding of Jessica & Avi.  

The couple met when Jessica took a job in Israel.  They met shortly after she arrived and from there, the relationship developed and blossomed.  When they decided to get married,  the obvious location was Jessica’s hometown of Atlanta.  Avi and his family live in Israel so this would mean a destination wedding for his family. Even though the couple are both Jewish, there were still differences in the traditions observed, so blending them was the first step in the blending of the two families. 

Wanting to offer true hospitality and a wonderful experience not only to the groom’s family but to all guests in attendance, the venue, the Westin Buckead was selected.  The Hotel being centrally located in the heart of Buckhead provided many activities for out-of-town guests to enjoy.  

Jim White Designs provided a soft, romantic and elegant setting for the Ceremony using various shades of white and soft pink with subtle touches of green.  The Chuppah doubled as a canopy during the reception giving a beautiful focal point for the cake presentation. I think you will agree it was gorgeous.

The romantic and elegant theme continued for the reception.  There were touches of contemporary accents with the floral design along with a lot of flickering candles.  A mix of tables including two long Estate tables framing the dance floor, as well as round guest tables provided visual interest in the room.  A Sweetheart Table placed at the edge of the dance floor with a lush centerpiece, completed the design.

The menu for the evening included Mediterranean, Pasta, Salmon and Flatbread Stations. Guests were able to mingle as they visited the different stations filling their plates and bellies before they hit the dance floor.

Our favorite Pastry Chef, Mark Lotti, created the gorgeous wedding cake.  The square cake featured the couples monogram on the center tier and consisted of Vanilla Bean and Oreo cheesecake.  Guests were seen going back for seconds {even thirds}.

One of Atlanta’s premier party bands, US Beat, kept the crowd entertained and energized throughout the evening.  We always love working with them!

Venue Spotlight ~ Selby Gardens in Sarasota, Florida

When planning a wedding or any social celebration, selecting the venue is key.  We assist our clients in determining the perfect venue for them by asking many questions to include among others, anticipated guest count as well as their vision of the theme and atmosphere. When it comes to weddings and social celebrations in Sarasota, there are so many options of venues available, from luxury hotels to historic homes, art museums, botanical gardens or of course, the beautiful beaches.  

One of the gorgeous venues that we love is Selby Gardens.  For historical information on Selby Gardens click here. The stunning beauty of the gardens coupled with the view of Sarasota Bay, creates a magical setting for an unforgettable event.

Weddings may be held anywhere throughout the Gardens. The most popular locations are the Schimmel Wedding Lawn and Pavilion, the Gazebo, the Banyan Grove, and The Wedding Oak adjacent to the Christy Payne Mansion. Additional areas that lend themselves to nuptial celebrations are the Great Room by the Bay indoors or outdoors at the Christy Payne Mansion.

Renovations have been underway at the Gardens, but are estimated to be complete by the first part of October which will also include an option for wedding party’s to arrive by boat on the south lawn side. 

The south lawn includes the Gazebo, Children’s Playground, and cocktail area looking over the bay, as well as a dance floor/seating area. This area can accommodate 250+ for a seated event.   There is not a backup plan on this side when it comes to weather, so usually a tent is booked. 

The Great Room by the Bay is smaller, consisting of 3600 square feet, however, for an indoor event it has a lot to offer. There is a large bay view, terrace for band or DJ, and the “wedding oak” which is picturesque for ceremony backdrop.

This is a private lawn to the side of the Gazebo that is a great space for a Cocktail Hour or small intimate dinner. The mangrove trees are being trimmed down to offer a better view of Sarasota Bay

Next in the Series…From Planner to MOB!!

Continuing the series “From Planner to MOB” takes us now to what has transpired since the last post.  

Jessica has selected her wedding party!!  She created these adorable boxes filled with goodies that had a message asking each to be a part of her bridal party.  She did a great job on the gifts!

Once the bridal party was selected, next came DRESS SHOPPING!  

We visited a few bridal salons and Jessica enjoyed the process of trying on dresses.  We had appointments at each store – so we were not just walk-in customers.  I must interject one thing here, as a Planner, my clients through the years have used some of these same stores for their wedding gown, but experiencing it on the other side was somewhat eye-opening.  Probably the biggest difference between our appointments was how we were treated. At one store, which happened to be the first we visited, we were constantly being reminded of how much time we had left for our appointment.  I thought this was very interesting in that the stylist made a comment one time when we still had over 45 minutes left – which should be plenty of time to try on dresses – however, she truly made us feel that our time wasn’t as important as her time or that we were just a “number”.  In addition, as with all bridal salons, you are instructed to go through and pick out dresses that you are interested in trying so that the stylist can determine your interest.  It is their job to make recommendations on other styles that they feel will best fit your body type (and budget) – however, with the first appointment, of the group of dresses Jessica initially selected (which by the way were available in her size and budget), she only tried on one, whereas the stylist pulled a few other dresses that were not even close to what she had chosen. When we asked about when we would get to other dresses she was interested in, basically she ignored out inquiry or reminded us of how much time we had left.  I felt bad for Jessica, and left wondering if this truly is how all of my other clients have been treated in this particular store.  

The next day we had two appointments and they were drastically different from our first experience.  In both stores, Jessica selected dresses that she had an interest in which the stylist did pull, however, the stylist worked with Jessica and pulled several others based upon her criteria.  Both of the stylists spent time with her answering questions, suggesting options and made her feel special.  THIS is how every store should make you feel. She did select her DRESS.  It was a hard decision for her because she really had 2 that she fell in love with, but she made the decision on the one that she felt matched her style and theme.  We have checked off selecting a dress on our Check List.  I won’t share any details about the dress other than she said she felt like Cinderella…you will have to wait until the wedding to see that photo!  :o)

From Planner to MOB {Mother of the Bride}

I have been planning and producing weddings for MANY years but I now am taking on a new role as MOB {Mother of the Bride}!  I must say, it is a different perspective, but I look forward to the role and process.

As the plans unfold, I will be sharing information here about the process.  I hope you will follow along on this journey.

Let’s start at the beginning!  The groom-to-be, came to ask for my blessings to marry my oldest daughter (Jessica) on a Wednesday.  We had a nice chat and talked about quite a few things.  He showed me the ring!!!  GORGEOUS!  He did a great job selecting it AND keeping it a secret from my daughter until he asked her to marry him the following Saturday.

Coincidently, my daughter had already planned to attend a bridal show the following day. {Insert plug for Bridal Extravaganza of Atlanta – the BEST Bridal Show around.  Held twice a year, in January and August.  Check it out by clicking here!} Since I was working at the show, she had fun with her sister and best friend getting inspiration from the many beautiful designs seen at the show.

We initially planned to have a beach wedding in Sarasota followed by a celebration in Georgia, however once we discussed the realities of the budget, it was decided that we will have the whole wedding in Georgia.  We are still waiting to get confirmation on the date and venue.

Jessica has selected the color palette for the wedding, Navy, Coral and Gold.  I know it will be beautiful.  We have also determined the theme of the decor style and I have already been out scouring Antique and Thrift stores for items that will be incorporated.  The fun has just begun!!!!

Rachel & Felipe’s Gorgeous, Elegant Wedding

The love was palatable all around for Rachel & Felipe’s wedding.  Their 1st Look was one of the sweetest exchanges I’ve ever witnessed.  They were so adorable seeing each other and the setting was magical. Tears of Happiness flowed from both of them and made the anticipation of the ceremony even higher.

The Georgian Terrace Hotel was the venue for the wedding and as always the service was impeccable.  This historic venue offers a gorgeous backdrop for a wedding and the renovated, spacious guest rooms, allow guests to enjoy their stay right in the city with so many activities close-by. Rachel got ready in her Penthouse Suite and as you will see, she and her bridal party had some fun in one of the bathrooms in the Suite. 

Event Savvy designed the fabulous decor.  The color palette was lavender, pinks and creams.  The linens and decor for the reception were exquisite! All of the details of the decor were just perfect and it was such a pleasure working with Doris and her team!!

Luna Strings provided the Ceremony and Cocktail Hour music, while Ascension Band kept the crowd partying all night.

Happy 4th of July!!!

We are less than a week away from one of my favorite Holiday’s, the 4th of July!  The 4th has always held a special place in my heart and remembering back to my teenage and young adult years, I LOVED spending the 4th at Island Park in Sarasota.  There would be a festival taking place all day and then fireworks would be shot off over the bay at dark.  Being with friends celebrating the Holiday made the day all the more special.  When my daughters were young, we would usually spend the 4th with my brother in Orlando.  We would always have a cookout with a group of friends, hang out in the pool and even be able to see Disney’s fireworks from there.  It always seemed magical.  Although I’m not in Sarasota or Orlando this year, I do plan on celebrating locally with friends and family and look forward to watching fireworks to bring the special day to a close.
