Pretty in Pink ~ Liana’s Bat Mitzvah

When I first met with Siomara, the mom of the Honoree, I knew she was someone who I wanted to work with.  Our initial consultation which consisted of the normal fact-finding questions to see where in the planning process we were and what vision we were working towards let me know that this was going to be a Mitzvah that would benefit from my services and referrals, which would result in an amazing celebration ~ and THAT it was!!!

With the date and venue set, May 18th at The Georgia Aquarium, we began meeting with vendors that would be able to provide exceptional service!  First stop, JWilbur of EventScapes.  We met with him and gave the “theme” of PINK!  All shades and varieties!  Other than the color, Siomara wasn’t specific on what the design should look like, but rather let Wilbur use his creativity to design the perfect setting for the celebration.  With the venue being the   Aquarium,we knew that special consideration had to be given to the viewing windows in the Oceans Ballroom.  This was accomplished by having lounge seating areas where guests could sit, relax, chat with their friends while watching the Whale Sharks or Beluga’s. 

In two areas on the “kid” side of the room, there were cozy seating areas with a canopy covering that had ribbons suspended holding flowers and sparkling crystals.  The sofas had fun pillows including some bright pink pillows and a shag carpet.  Several High-boy tables were scattered about as well as cocktail round lit tables with personalized decor using the branded logo for the event.  

The adult tables were covered in beautiful linens and were adorned with sleek white shaped vases filled with an asymmetrical arrangement of flowers.  They were truly stunning.  The “look” was elegant, sleek and contemporary.  

Knowing that this event needed a custom invitation suite, I referred Robyn Feinberg, RSVP.  Her creativity, advice and attention to detail resulted in a beautiful branded suite of invitations, labels, Guest Welcome Letters and other accessory products used for the decor, the favors and the Candy Buffet. .  

The talented Kristen Alexander was on hand to photograph the event and her images are included here for you to drool over!!! She was busy all night capturing all of the beauty as well as the fun EVERYONE was having!

Vibe Entertainment provided the entertainment for the evening.  The dancers kept the kids engaged with games and dancing.  One of the cool features with their set-up was a shadow box where guests could stand behind the screen and dance and from the front you would just see silhouettes.

Mark Lotti of Classic Cheesecake and Cakes provided the gorgeous cake which was the focal point for the Candle Lighting ceremony.  The cake was intricately designed to include replicas of her logo as well as small Stars of David. 

Opher Moses of Point of View Video, was brought on board to capture both the official ceremony as well as the party on video.  He is always a pleasure to work with and he does a superb job of creating a video that will give years of enjoyment for the family.  

Wolfgang Puck Caterers did their amazing job of providing delicious food and exceptional service.  After dinner, guests were treated to an array of delectable desserts in addition to the cake.  

And as if there wasn’t enough sweets already provided, we provided a Candy Bar Buffet with some of Liana’s favorite candies which were presented in a beautiful display.  Adults and kids alike enjoyed this buffet.  

As guests departed, they picked up yet another favor, a custom Tank Top to commemorate the occasion.  

This Mitzvah celebration was such a pleasure to plan and produce and combining the services of many of my preferred vendors ensured this was not only a wonderful day for the Honoree their family and guests but also for the vendors involved.  We are so thrilled to have been involved to produce this flawless event!!

Destination Wedding Location ~ The Hammptons

Many times when our thoughts turn to Destination Weddings, we think of the tropical locations in the Caribbean – however, an equally beautiful and festive location is The Hamptons.  It’s no surprise that The Hamptons play host to many celebrities every summer and if you are a fan of the TV Show “Revenge”, then you get a glimpse into the social scene there.  One of my favorite shows, “Sex In The City”, also had episodes devoted to summertime in The Hamptons.  So, why not select The Hamptons for your destination for your wedding?!

There are many homes and cottages available to rent.  Some rent by the day while others by the week and even month.  For a wedding celebration, a week would be a wonderful amount of time to arrive, get settled in, and begin the pre-wedding celebrations.  Take your bridal party with you and have some great “girl” time.  Many of the houses have private pools, so lounging around the pool would be an excellent way to enjoy being together and relaxing.  The Hamptons boast many fine restaurants where your group can go for dinner if you don’t want to cook in the kitchen of the home.  Or maybe a night out at one of the many Nightclubs would be a fun activity.  Many of the homes come with grills and outdoor dining areas, so having a barbecue would be a great option for a Welcome Party or even the Rehearsal Dinner.  Of course, being on the water, perhaps a Low Country Boil would be appropriate.

Many of the homes are waterfront properties, so imagine having your wedding overlooking the water.  With a large lawn, the possibilities are endless for dining under the stars.  To be prepared for inclimate weather, a tent could be installed.  The month of July is the hottest in The Hamptons with highs reaching close to 90’s during the day but cools off nicely at night to the upper 60’s to 70’s.  These could make for comfortable temperatures for a lovely outdoor celebration.  I envision twinkle lights strung to provide a magical feel to the area while candles and flowers float in the pool.  

Many of the homes available for rent have numerous bedrooms, so hosting a large group is very easy.  Usually, all of the “comforts of home” are provided for you, so there is no need to pack the essentials (linens, dishes, paper products, etc.) which makes it very easy to just arrive and begin enjoying the home and area.

Whether you want to cook up a meal or just lounge around visiting and relaxing, this place can accommodate it all!

One rental home that I located even has the option of motor cars and a yacht available for rental.  What an incredible “departure” for the bride and groom to depart the reception and get aboard a private yacht for their wedding night.  Imagine, cruising around in the harbor while enjoying the gentle waves that lull you to sleep on the first night of being husband and wife.  Wake up the next morning where a bountiful breakfast has been provided for you.  Or perhaps you would prefer to have one of the magnificent motor cars take you to a different location for your first night if you didn’t want to stay in the fabulous Master suite.  So many options!!

Large events are very common in The Hamptons, and there are vendors to provide the vision you may have!  While I’ve mentioned the location for a Destination wedding, it certainly could also be perfect for a family reunion or Couples summer trip where spending time together and hosting special events throughout your stay are on the agenda.

Inspiration for a Sweet Sixteen!!!

For something a little different, I decided to take you through an inspiration board process for a Sweet Sixteen party.  As with any event, you need a theme or a common thread that the event will be built around.  This is what creates the consistency or branding of the event.

For this Sweet Sixteen party, the first thing I did was select the invitation.  I chose a purple invitation with details of diamonds.  That then became the “theme”.  For all other decisions from decor, linens, favors, attire and even lighting, that theme was carried out so that guests will “get it” – in other words, they will feel how everything works together because the same theme is in every detail.  The way I always think about an event from conception to completion is a full circle – where the beginning “theme” carries a guest from invitation to the last dance of the night.  Thinking in this manner will keep the event from feeling disjointed. 

Instead of  giving you all of the details in words – I created a Pinterest Board with all of the selections.  Take a look — the descriptions of each image let’s you know the use or thought behind the item.  As with all events there are multiple options to be considered – so this Inspiration Board would be for the BIG PICTURE ~ The start of the process.  Once the Client has made some decision on their preferences, then the Inspiration Board gets pared down so that it will only indicate the ACTUAL event decisions.  While sometimes, having too many options or choices creates more confusion, there are times when you  need to examine many options to find just the right selection to suit the client.  That is the premise behind this project.   Follow this link to take a look into the planning of a beautiful Sweet Sixteen celebration.

Let’s face it, Atlanta has a TON of amazing restaurants and venues for Private Events!  While having options is a great thing – it can also be confusing – so this blog post will focus on a few of my favorite restaurants that would be PERFECT for Rehearsal Dinners, Bridal Luncheons/Showers, Guy’s Night Out, Birthday or Anniversary Party’s as well as any other special occasions!!

My recommendations are based on factors such as quality of food and service, atmosphere, ability to accommodate various sized groups, ease of access and flexibility of the venue on menu as well as other details.

Davio’s Atlanta is located in the heart of Buckhead, Atlanta’s hot spot for the best shopping and the finest dining.

The restaurant offers a large display kitchen, an in-house bakery, vibrant bar, and lounge and outdoor patio complete with soft seating and fire pits.

As a Northern Italian Steakhouse their menu includes – Aged New York Strip Sirloin, Filet Mignon, Porterhouse and Veal Chop. The menu also includes well known classic Davio’s recipes such as Tagliatelle Bolognese, Crispy Chicken Livers, Homemade Sausages, Veal Scaloppini and an amazing assortment of Davio’s Spring Rolls that are some of the most delicious tasty morsels around.

Baraonda private dining rooms are reminiscent of an old Tuscan home with its soft pastel walls, dark paneling and domed ceilings which are accentuated with beautiful central crystal and gothic chandeliers. The Tuscan room holds up to 50 people seated and up to 70 people for a cocktail reception.  The wineroom however, holds up to 80 people seated and up to 120 people for cocktail reception.

And the OSCAR Goes to…..

This Sunday, February 24th is the 85th annual Academy Awards.  Whether you are a side-line commentator for the Red Carpet or a die-hard movie lover and at-home audience member, here are some ideas for a celebration that is Oscar worthy!!

Set the tone with your invitations.  Invite your guests to YOUR Red Carpet party.  You can take the theme as far as you want – but a great start is having a Red Carpet out welcoming your guests.  If you can’t produce a Red Carpet – how about setting the table with a Red Runner to emulate the carpet.

Have the “paparazzi” poised outside to begin snapping photos of guests as they arrive.  You could also have a clever Step and Repeat pattern for guests to be able to stop and have their photo taken with “celebrities”.

As the guests enter, offer them a specialty cocktail.  It’s no secret among my friends that my fav drink is a Margarita – so why not offer your guests a yummy OSCAR-rita!  Daphne Oz of the ABC show, The Chew, offers a tasty recipe for this cocktail.

Your décor can be elegant or fun – whatever  best suits the ambience of your party.  Creativity is key – so  paying a trip to a local hobby store or even thrift or antique store to find some interesting pieces might pay off with some treasurable finds.  You can even purchase Oscar party-ware at Party City.

While offering a gourmet seven course meal to your guests might be well received, you can instead offer a variety of simpler fare to keep the guests interacting with finger-foods.  Keeping with the theme of a Red Carpet and movie awards – offer Red Velvet cupcakes and a Popcorn Bar Buffet.

Keep your guests entertained and involved.  Play OSCAR games such as OSCAR B-I-N-G-O or you could even have guests complete a Ballot for their picks when they arrive and as each category is presented – see who matched the winner.  You could even provide small OSCAR-like trophies to the winners.  During commercial breaks – take turns seeing how each of your guests would deliver their own Acceptance speech and see if they could beat the clock before the MUSIC signals their time is up!
