Happy Valentine’s Day!!

Lorianne & Karao’s Gorgeous Fusion Wedding

I’ve said it many times before, but I’ll say it again….I have the most amazing clients!!! AND, making this wedding even more special, it was a former JBEvents client family!!! Working with this family again was a true honor, and getting to see my former couple and meeting their adorable children was such a highlight. I am indeed lucky to build lasting relationships with such incredible people.

Lorianne & Karao have a love that you can feel when you are around them. Their family and friends also radiate love and good times!

We blended some Kenyan traditions with American, especially southern traditions for the beautiful fusion wedding.

The ladies gathered at a friends home to start the day with their hair and make-up appointments. They enjoyed some delicious nibbles and a mimosa bar. Perfect start to the day!

The bride wore a stunning gown from J. Andrews Bridal. The bridal party each selected their own dresses in jewel tones. The look was perfect. The groom and his guys wore custom made suits in a deep teal color – and they all looked dapper!

A Kenyan tradition is that the mother of the groom and the female family members arrive at the brides home (or in this case the venue) to escort her to the ceremony. The ladies gather and begin singing outside of the home while the bride and her parents remain inside behind the door. At the appropriate time, the door is opened and the bride begins making her way out. The groom’s family continues singing while placing shawls on the ground for the bride to walk upon, so that her feet do not touch the ground. What a beautiful beginning to the celebration.

Karao, the groom, was placed with his back to the bride so he could not see her, but he could hear the singing and the joy of his wife-to-be being serenaded by his mom, sisters and aunts, as she walked towards him. When Lorianne reached Karao, she gently touched his shoulder indicating he could turn around. The emotion of the couple and everyone witnessing this was palpable and I dare say, there wasn’t a dry eye in the crowd. Seeing this tradition, touched me as it clearly demonstrated the coming together of not just the couple, but of their families. The acceptance and embracing cultural differences simply because of LOVE. That’s what it’s all about – LOVE!

The ceremony, officiated by the bride’s brother, was very personal and unique to the couple. Another perfect aspect of this special day.

As the couple were pronounced married, the music started, “Aye” by Davido, and the couple danced up the aisle. The wedding party followed suit and it was fantastic. It was such a celebratory moment.

Now for the Southern part of the wedding. The bride and her family are HUGE Dawg fans. In fact, we were originally planning on having the couple introduced in for their 1st dance to the Call of the Dawgs. Our plans had to change slightly since the game time wasn’t announced until just less than 2 weeks from the day of the wedding. Instead of it being an evening kick-off as we were hoping, it was instead a 4:00 kick-off. Well, that was the time of the ceremony so unless we wanted the bride to enter to the Call of the Dawgs, we needed to change things up a bit. ūüôā We were already having a large TV at the venue for the game, so we positioned it on the back terrace. Guests were able to watch part of the game during Cocktail Hour, before they were escorted to the tent for dinner. As guests finished their dinner, they made their way back out to the terrace to watch the end of the game. And what an end it was. Georgia had been ahead for the 1st three quarters, but in the 4th quarter, Auburn made 2 touchdowns. It looked like Auburn was going to tie things up, but in the last seconds of the game Georgia defense held them and won the game and clinched the SEC East Division title. Not a bad little wedding gift — thank you UGA! I feel rather certain that the cheers from this Lake Oconee crown could be heard at the game in Auburn!

After the game, the party really got started. The couple shared their 1st dance, the bride and her father danced followed by the groom and his mom. Then during the toasts there was another special Kenyan tradition. The grooms mother presented the bride, her mother and grandmother with lovely, hand-made baskets from Kenya that are used for going to the market. The presentation of this heartfelt gesture was one more example of the love that was present and filling the air at this wedding.

Guests had a great time in the photo booth striking a pose. The couple has a lasting memory of their guests with the memory book created by ShutterBooth, where guests wrote a personal message next to their photo.

In addition to the photo keepsake, guests also were able to take home a Hot Chocolate stick complete with a large marshmallow. A perfect take away on this chilly fall evening.

As with every event, there is a team of vendors working together to ensure the couples desires and vision are carried out. We were happy to partner with these vendors to produce this fabulous and flawless wedding.

Cecilia & Ben’s Spectacular Day!

I am one of the lucky Event Planner’s, because I have fabulous clients!!!! Cecilia & Ben are certainly part of that group. We had a great time planning their wedding and the result was – well you can see for yourself. A good time was had by all! This couple exudes love and happiness which you can see by the expressions on their faces and the way they interact together.

Capturing the beauty of the day was none other than Kristen Alexander and the also amazing Jonathan Nye of Cre8ive Video.

Huge shout out to Kim Jordan of Woodruff Arts Center for referring this wonderful couple to me! Thank you so much! It was a pleasure working with Kim to make sure all of the venue details were expertly handled. Kim was even able to get special permission for photos of the whole wedding party to be taken in the High Museum since it was raining and photos couldn’t be taken outside. Woodruff Arts Center is a beautiful place for weddings and corporate events.

Christopher Macksey of Topher Mack, created the stunning floral. The phalaenopsis orchids were amazing. The whole design aspect was unique with a classic, modern and sleek style – perfect for this couple! They also provided light walls out on the terrace which gave a very interesting focal decor piece. Guests enjoyed taking selfies there throughout the evening.

Brad and the Livin Large band kept the crowd entertained and on the dance floor all night.

The beautiful cake was from Sweet Creations by Candi. The ombre sugar paste flowers were spectacular!

Adding to the fun of the evening, the couple provided masquerade masks for guests to wear while they danced the night away! This was a huge hit!! It was entertaining watching guests select their mask with such care, and then taking on somewhat of a different persona out on the dance floor.

It was an amazing day, despite the rain. Cecilia and Ben didn’t let the raindrops stop them from having a fabulous and flawless wedding.

We wish them a lifetime of happiness and adventures!!

Meghan and Matt’s Spectacular Day!

I am so thankful that I have been blessed with some of the greatest clients around.  In the list of great clients, Meghan and Matt are right at the top!

This adorable couple has a very busy life and they realized that they needed help with putting their wedding plans together and I was honored to be their Planner. Special thanks go to David Clarke of Chelsea Floral Designs for the referral!!

The bride’s style was classic, traditional and elegant.¬† Her color palette was Navy and Peach.¬† Her dress , from Winnie Couture, was a beautiful lace, fit and flare dress with cap sleeves, v-neck and sheer back.¬† Meghan looked stunning.¬†¬†

The bridesmaids wore elegant navy dresses with a one-shoulder strap.  

The Groom and his groomsmen looked dapper in blue tuxedos with a slight difference of the groom’s being a deep navy while the guys were a brighter shade of blue.¬†

The ceremony was held at Redeemer Lutheran church while the reception was held at the Georgian Terrace Hotel.

Hair and Make-up for the ladies was provided by The Moore Agency.  They all looked so pretty.  

A very touching moment was when the Father of the Bride saw his daughter for the first time.¬† She presented him with a hand-embroidered handkerchief that I’m sure will be a keepsake forever!

Chelsea Floral Designs created the gorgeous floral arrangements.¬† The bouquets were swoon-worthy.¬† Megan’s bouquet had a special touch,¬† part of her mother’s wedding dress was wrapped around the stems.¬†

The amazing Laura Stone captured the day with her talented and artistic eye.  She has such an easy way with clients, that they feel at ease and comfortable, allowing her to capture the beauty and emotion of the day!  Her images will undoubtedly allow the couple, their family and friends to relive the the special day filled with love and joy for years to come. 

Guests enjoyed Cocktail Hour in Livingston’s Bar at the Georgian Terrace Hotel, with tasty hors d’oeuvres and refreshing beverages before entering the Grand Ballroom for the dinner and reception.

DJ Eric Anthony was on hand keeping the party going and the dance floor full!

Thank you Meghan and Matt for allowing me the honor and privilege of planning and producing your special day.  I wish you both a lifetime of happiness!!!!

I took a few photos during the day too……the ones of the cake were because of how the ceremonial cutting had a tiny issue.¬† If you look at the professional photos of the couple cutting the cake, you’ll see they are laughing and then look closely at the Groom holding the plate up and you will see the slice of cake was a bit of a mess.¬† I had to take a photo of the end result of the cutting.¬† I LOVE that they had a good time with the messy cutting – which just goes to show what a fun couple they were to work with!!!

A Special Simcha for a Special Family

It was truly an honor and a privilege to plan and produce the second Mitzvah celebration for this amazing family!  There are just some times that you really click with a client and throughout the process you develop a friendship.  That was the case with this sweet family.  Three years ago I worked with this family on their daughters Bat Mitzvah and now the youngest of the family, Daniel is celebrating his Bar Mitzvah!

We selected the InterContinental Hotel as the venue, which was perfect because many of the family members live not only out of state, but out of the country.  The Hotel would be home away from home while the family came to celebrate this special time.

Let me just talk about family for a moment.  The love that this family has for each other, and actively shows, makes my heart smile.  The siblings are each others biggest supporters and the connection between them is something that you can feel whenever you are around them.  The entire family Рimmediate and extended Рshare a love that just makes you feel happy to see it expressed!

The photos below, compliments of the always fabulous, Kristen Alexander, will tell the story for me, but I want to provide just a few details.  

Instead of a full-on theme for the celebration, a color palette was selected.¬† The honoree’s favorite Soccer team is Barcelona, so their team colors of burgundy, blue and yellow were the basis of the decor.¬†

For the Kiddush luncheon, we went with a palette of black and white striped linens, paired with yellow and white flowers.  It was a very crisp and clean look.

For the evening party, we paired a contemporary design concept with organic touches for a truly unique and elevated look.  Bringing the concepts and design together was the creative genius of JWilbur of EventScapes.  

One of my favorite parts of a Mitzvah is the candle lighting ceremony.  Hearing the honoree honor their family and friends is touching and inspiring. 

For this party, if you had a sweet-tooth, then you would have been in heaven.  After a delicious dinner, guests were invited out to the garden terrace for mini cupcakes, fresh made hot doughnuts with a variety of toppings and an ice cream bar.  

And if those sweets weren’t enough, then how about a candy buffet featuring Daniel’s favorite treats.

Guests received a commemorative T-shirt as a lasting reminder of the special occasion. 

Now that all of the kid’s in the family have celebrated their Mitzvah’s, we look forward to continued celebrations like weddings, with this wonderful family in the future.¬†

Cinderella marries her Prince Charming…AKA Jessica & Rocky get married!

This truly is one of the most special weddings I have ever planned and produced, because it’s was for my oldest daughter!

I did some blogging throughout the planning process {“From Planner to MOB”} if you want to read about some of the process along the way, and I admit, I didn’t ever get to the post about her bridal shower, but maybe one of these days I’ll get that one up too.

But, let’s talk about the wedding!!!!

The original plan/desire was to have a small wedding on the beach in Sarasota, however, after considering all of the details and logistics Jessica & Rocky decided to get married here in Georgia at their church.  One of the things that meant so much to me was that they wanted a venue that held meaning to them and honestly, that makes so much sense.  I admired them for feeling this way and I think choosing their church was the perfect choice!

Once the venue and date were set, the next step was to solidify the theme.  They wanted an elegant but somewhere between vintage and shabby/chic vibe.  I immediately began scouring antique and thrift stores buying up all of the milk glass I could find, along with tons of different styles of votive holders and crystal candlesticks.  Jessica had some ideas of certain items she wanted such as an old suitcase for a card holder and another suitcase for the cake plateau.  I found a couple of old suitcases that we refurbished and we were really happy with how they turned out! {All of these items are now available for rent.  Contact us for information.}

Their colors were navy, deep coral and metallic gold.  The girls wore navy dresses and the guys wore navy tuxes with coral accents. They all looked so nice.  

The Ring Bearer was the cutest one ever!!!!!!!!! And the two Flower Girls were absolutely adorable!!!!

We knew with having Kristen Alexander as our photographer we were going to get fantastic, artistic and creative images Рand she did not disappoint.  Her calm demeanor and laid-back vibe and doing whatever it takes to get jaw-dropping images is incomparable.  Her style to create lasting memories of classic photographs in a unique way is just one of the many reasons I refer my clients to her.

EventScapes Atlanta took a dark and warehousey feel of the church and made it look elegant.  The ceremony backdrop which then became the cake backdrop was gorgeous! I loved the centerpieces created in the milk glass vases.  The room looked beautiful.

Speaking of the cake, Oh-mmm-gee!!! ¬†Mark Lotti created a design that was gorgeous and perfect. ¬†Jessica and Rocky met with him and gave a few ideas and he came up with exactly what they wanted but weren’t able to put into words. ¬†It’s no surprise that Mark is my go-to guy for my clients, because not only does he create amazing designs, but the cakes taste even better (and that’s saying A LOT). ¬†

There were so many special details that were a part of the day such as Jessica’s uncle, my brother, walking her down the aisle and since her dad did not attend the wedding, she danced with her son (my precious Nanababy) instead of having ¬†Father/Daughter dance. ¬†It was adorable! The groom’s step-father officiated the wedding, which was so special. ¬†It was also important to the couple to remember the family members who have passed away, so we had a memory table with photos of those special people.

Instead of a traditional guest book, the couple instead had guests sign a Bible and asked them to highlight their favorite verse or leave words of encouragement.  What a keepsake that is! 

Guests had a blast with the Photo Booth provided by ShutterBooth Atlanta.  They always do such a fabulous job.  Their equipment is top-notch and their Hosts are fun and interactive.

The vendors {friendors} that worked with us were amazing!!!!  They all outdid themselves and I (and my daughter and son-in-law) are eternally grateful.

I have to give a special SHOUT OUT to my team, Victoria and Donna!  Although I did all of the planning, schedules, vendor confirmation, etc., they took over to produce the wedding so that I could actually enjoy being the Mother of the Bride.  I have always said that I have the best and most hard-working associates of any planning firm around, and being able to experience their work and service first-hand, I am even more certain!

Happy 4th of July!!

The 4th of July has always been one of my favorite holiday’s. ¬†Summertime, friends, good food and fireworks is the perfect combination for a fun time. ¬†

Some of my fondest memories are from my late teen’s and early 20’s when a friend of mine and I would get a hotel room with a view overlooking the Sarasota Bay and have a few friends over to celebrate the 4th of July and watch the fireworks. ¬†

The 4th of July tends to lend itself to being a great time for gathering with friends.  Barbecues or low country boils are popular themes.  Having activities for the kids as well as games for kids and adults is sure to bring out the competitive spirit in everyone.  The decor for your party can be very simple to elaborate, but having refreshing beverages and yummy food to nosh on are key.  You can get some ideas on my 4th of July Pinterest board.

If you don’t want to host a party at your home, there are many other local attractions that you can attend. ¬†Getting a group together to go watch fireworks is still a favorite activity of mine. ¬†Grab some cold beverages and snacks and put them in a cooler, take sparklers, glow sticks or poppers for the gang to celebrate with while waiting for the show to begin. ¬†Don’t forget to pack the bug spray to keep those pesky little heathens from eating YOU as their snack. ¬†:o)

 No matter how you celebrate, remember the freedoms our Country was built on, which have not come without sacrifice.  These words need to remembered not only on Independence Day, but everyday!

Venue Spotlight ~ Selby Gardens in Sarasota, Florida

When planning a wedding or any social celebration, selecting the venue is key.  We assist our clients in determining the perfect venue for them by asking many questions to include among others, anticipated guest count as well as their vision of the theme and atmosphere. When it comes to weddings and social celebrations in Sarasota, there are so many options of venues available, from luxury hotels to historic homes, art museums, botanical gardens or of course, the beautiful beaches.

Weddings may be held anywhere throughout the Gardens. The most popular locations are the Schimmel Wedding Lawn and Pavilion, the Gazebo, the Banyan Grove, and The Wedding Oak adjacent to the Christy Payne Mansion. Additional areas that lend themselves to nuptial celebrations are the Great Room by the Bay indoors or outdoors at the Christy Payne Mansion.

Renovations have been underway at the Gardens, but are estimated to be complete by the first part of October which will also include an option for wedding party’s to arrive by boat on the south lawn side.¬†

The south lawn includes the Gazebo, Children’s Playground, and cocktail area looking over the bay, as well as a dance floor/seating area. This area can accommodate 250+ for a seated event. ¬†¬†There is not a backup plan on this side when it comes to weather, so usually a tent is booked.¬†

The Great Room by the Bay is smaller, consisting of 3600 square feet, however, for an indoor event it has a lot to offer. There is a large bay view, terrace for band or DJ, and the “wedding oak” which is picturesque for ceremony backdrop.¬†

This is a private lawn to the side of the Gazebo that is a great space for a Cocktail Hour or small intimate dinner. The mangrove trees are being trimmed down to offer a better view of Sarasota Bay

Next in the Series…From Planner to MOB!!

Continuing the series “From Planner to MOB” takes us now to what has transpired since the last post. ¬†

Jessica has selected her wedding party!!  She created these adorable boxes filled with goodies that had a message asking each to be a part of her bridal party.  She did a great job on the gifts!

Once the bridal party was selected, next came DRESS SHOPPING!  

We visited a few bridal salons and Jessica enjoyed the process of trying on dresses. ¬†We had appointments at each store – so we were not just walk-in customers. ¬†I must interject one thing here, as a Planner, my clients through the years have used some of these same stores for their wedding gown, but experiencing it on the other side was somewhat eye-opening. ¬†Probably the biggest difference between our appointments was how we were treated. At one store, which happened to be the first we visited, we were constantly being reminded of how much time we had left for our appointment. ¬†I thought this was very interesting in that the stylist made a comment one time when we still had over 45 minutes left – which should be plenty of time to try on dresses – however, she truly made us feel that our time wasn’t as important as her time or that we were just a “number”. ¬†In addition, as with all bridal salons, you are instructed to go through and pick out dresses that you are interested in trying so that the stylist can determine your interest. ¬†It is their job to make recommendations on other styles that they feel will best fit your body type (and budget) – however, with the first appointment, of the group of dresses Jessica initially selected (which by the way were available in her size and budget), she only tried on one, whereas the stylist pulled a few other dresses that were not even close to what she had chosen. When we asked about when we would get to other dresses she was interested in, basically she ignored out inquiry or reminded us of how much time we had left. ¬†I felt bad for Jessica, and left wondering if this truly is how all of my other clients have been treated in this particular store. ¬†

The next day we had two appointments and they were drastically different from our first experience. ¬†In both stores, Jessica selected dresses that she had an interest in which the stylist did pull, however,¬†the stylist worked with Jessica and pulled several others based upon her criteria. ¬†Both of the stylists¬†spent time with her answering questions, suggesting options and made her feel special. ¬†THIS is how every store should make you feel. She did select her DRESS. ¬†It was a hard decision for her because she really had 2 that she fell in love with, but she made the decision on the one that she felt matched her style and theme. ¬†We have checked off selecting a dress on our Check List. ¬†I won’t share any details about the dress other than she said she felt like Cinderella…you will have to wait until the wedding to see that photo! ¬†:o)
