A Special Simcha for a Special Family

Posted in color palette, Mitzvahs, Other Events tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 8:52 am by JBEvents

It was truly an honor and a privilege to plan and produce the second Mitzvah celebration for this amazing family!  There are just some times that you really click with a client and throughout the process you develop a friendship.  That was the case with this sweet family.  Three years ago I worked with this family on their daughters Bat Mitzvah and now the youngest of the family, Daniel is celebrating his Bar Mitzvah!

We selected the InterContinental Hotel as the venue, which was perfect because many of the family members live not only out of state, but out of the country.  The Hotel would be home away from home while the family came to celebrate this special time.

Let me just talk about family for a moment.  The love that this family has for each other, and actively shows, makes my heart smile.  The siblings are each others biggest supporters and the connection between them is something that you can feel whenever you are around them.  The entire family – immediate and extended – share a love that just makes you feel happy to see it expressed!

The photos below, compliments of the always fabulous, Kristen Alexander, will tell the story for me, but I want to provide just a few details.

Instead of a full-on theme for the celebration, a color palette was selected.  The honoree’s favorite Soccer team is Barcelona, so their team colors of burgundy, blue and yellow were the basis of the decor.

For the Kiddush luncheon, we went with a palette of black and white striped linens, paired with yellow and white flowers.  It was a very crisp and clean look.

For the evening party, we paired a contemporary design concept with organic touches for a truly unique and elevated look.  Bringing the concepts and design together was the creative genius of JWilbur of EventScapes.

One of my favorite parts of a Mitzvah is the candle lighting ceremony.  Hearing the honoree honor their family and friends is touching and inspiring.

For this party, if you had a sweet-tooth, then you would have been in heaven.  After a delicious dinner, guests were invited out to the garden terrace for mini cupcakes, fresh made hot doughnuts with a variety of toppings and an ice cream bar.

And if those sweets weren’t enough, then how about a candy buffet featuring Daniel’s favorite treats.

Guests received a commemorative T-shirt as a lasting reminder of the special occasion.

Now that all of the kid’s in the family have celebrated their Mitzvah’s, we look forward to continued celebrations like weddings, with this wonderful family in the future.

A HUGE Thank you to each vendor that we were honored to recommend and partner with for this fabulous celebration!!!

Fun Favors!!

Posted in Other Events, Planning Tips and Information, Weddings tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 1:53 am by JBEvents

When clients ask me what type of favors I recommend for their wedding or event, I always recommend something consumable.  Guests tend to enjoy something they can eat – whether it’s a sweet or a savory item.  The method of presentation can vary depending on the particulars of the event.

Many times, we have placed small boxes of candy at each place setting so guests see them as soon as they take their seat.

Other times, we would display the items for guests to pick-up as they depart the celebration.

One fun way to incorporate the favors into the event is to have a late-night snack offered or displayed after the dancing and merriment has ensued.

We offer a Candy Buffet service that can be personalized for the event whether by selecting a certain color(s) of candy or a special theme (Old Time Candy, Couples Favorites, etc.).  We usually provide a type of cellophane bag – clear or in the events colors – so that guests can make their own goody bag.

For a truly Southern wedding, particularly in the Atlanta area, clients love to have items brought in from The Varsity.  Whether it’s their famous fried pies or their hot dogs – guests always go wild for these treats. Or what about Krispy Kreme Doughnuts?  These go so fast you would think the “Hot Now” sign was lit above them.

Who doesn’t love COOKIES?  One of my all-time favorite favors idea was my clients Family Favorite’s Cookies.  Several family members were known for a specific type of delicious cookie that they regularly made, so the bride asked them too make their specialty and then we placed them with labels indicating the type of the cookie and the person who made it.

Maybe you don’t want to have friends or relatives make their specialty cookies, but you still want to have a cookie display, a great option is to order some delicious cookies and even brownies from The Christie Cookie Co.  They offer a variety of flavors of some of the most delicious cookies I’ve ever tasted.  You can even utilize their products for Guest Welcome bags because you can order their products in a range of  sizes in perfect tins that you can personalize with your wedding logo.

Since it’s summer, what could be more refreshing than a gourmet Popsicle? King of Pops provides an on-site cart with a variety of flavors. They are always a huge hit. Another hot weather treat is the Dreamy Gelato cart. Guests had a delicious time selecting their flavors and toppings.

A couple of other fun options that have been well received by guests are a popcorn buffet and a gourmet cotton candy station.  These unexpected treats will please guests, young and old, and will have your guests remembering your event with sweet visions.

And the Winner is…Throwing an Oscar Viewing Party

Posted in Uncategorized tagged , , , , , , , , , , at 10:00 am by JBEvents

Oscar sign

It is no secret that we LOVE any excuse for a Party and with the upcoming Oscars this weekend what better theme/reason than to host an Oscars Viewing Party!

Set the tone with your invitations.  Be very creative by using a movie reel as the case for the invitation or use something more along the lines of a Movie Ticket.

210152-invites-to-start-3ee8c hollywood_invite_redwhite

oscar invite

There are a ton of decor items that you can purchase to use if you truly want to set the scene!  Your local party supply store can provide many Oscar themed decor pieces, or if you are crafty then you could make the decor yourself.

Let’s start out with a grand and regal Red Carpet entry for your guests. If you want to make it even more special, write the name of each guest on a Star and affix it to the Red Carpet.

What’s an award viewing party or any Hollywood event without Paparazzi?  Why not have your own?  From having real photographers taking photos as guests arrive, to using a decor prop of paparazzi and strobe flash lighting – create an entrance that will get your guests in the Star-Mode!

Once your guests enter your “Dolby Theatre” greet them with a special access lanyard {and a glass of champagne}!

Use more props as decor in the areas where you will be serving food and watching the show.  One of the fun items that you can incorporate is film…did you know that you can purchase used film as decor or just a prop?  Pair the film with movie reels and you have a great scene-setter!  Place a few trophies around as well to add to the party theme.

Whether you decide to serve a full-meal or just snacks, the options are endless.  If you are feeling so inspired, create a menu that pays homage to the Best Picture honorees, or do your best at replicating Wolfgang Puck’s menu for the Governor’s Ball.  Of course his food is always amazing, but I just have to say that his Smoked Salmon Oscar shaped hors d’oeuvres are adorable!!  Check out images of his menu by visiting here!

Wolfgang_Puck_Governors_Ball_Preview_2011

If you are opting for snacks instead of a full meal, then some of my favorite ideas are a popcorn bar, or a candy buffet.  Go all out and wow your guests with all sorts of popcorn flavors and toppings or a variety of types of candy for a candy buffet.  You can even have a theme for the candy – from a certain color, to retro varieties to typical candy treats you would find at a movie theater.   Your guests will devour the fun snacks!

Want to have a little friendly competition among your guests?  Pass out Oscar Ballots as guests arrive and then see who matches the most correct winners!  The winner gets their very own Oscar trophy to take home!

We hope that some of these ideas will help you with your party plans.  However you decide to celebrate the Academy Awards, we hope your celebration is worthy of an Oscar for BEST VIEWING PARTY!!

Love is Sweet for Erin & Tim

Posted in Uncategorized tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 8:30 am by JBEvents

A beautiful, sunny day with mild temperatures set the stage for the wedding of Erin & Tim.

Jenn and her team from Pure provided the Hair and Make-up services for the bridal party for a great start to the day.  The bride and her sisters (who were her attendants) got ready in the family home, which provided such a comfortable setting for the special day.

Paige of Once Like a Spark photography was the photographer.  She began capturing photos of the dress and all accessories at various locations throughout the house, giving some wonderful backdrops for the items that will have meaning for years to come.  Photos of the bride’s family also took place at the home before heading over to the Church.

Also on hand capturing the video images of the day was Jonathan (and Michael) of Evolution Video.  Jonathan is always such a pleasure to work with and his video’s are lasting treasures from the Special Day.  One trait of a videographer that is of extreme importance to me is one that is unobtrusive while expertly capturing the beauty and emotion of the day.  Jonathan always exceeds not only my expectations, but those of my clients as well!!!

Atlantic Limousine provided a limo to transport the bride, her attendants and her parents to the Church, St. John Neumann Catholic Church.  Meanwhile, the Groom, his Groomsmen (his brothers) and his parents arrived at the Church and met up with Paige for their pre-ceremony photos. After the ceremony, the limo took the wedding party to the off-site location for photos before delivering them to the reception venue.

The couple had quite a large group of guests travel from out of town for their wedding.  As a courtesy, they provided a Trolley to shuttle the guests from their hotel to the Church and then back to the hotel where they were transported by the Hotel’s shuttle to the Reception venue, 550 Trackside.

At the end of the ceremony, as the Bride & Groom were ready to make their way back up the aisle, from the back of the church, a bagpiper, played the recessional and postlude which was such a wonderful surprise for the guests.

Once all of the extended family photos were complete, the wedding party headed over to the Historic Square in Lawrenceville for some special photos.

Since the weather was so nice, guests were able to enjoy Cocktail Hour on the Terrace where they were able to mingle, watch trains go by as well as nibble on some yummy Hors D’oeuvres.

The groom built a special “frame” that held the Escort Cards. Each card was attached to the frame by a miniature clothes pin.  It was such a sweet display and guests were very intrigued by the design.

A Bokay by JoAnn provided the florals and the catering.  Each table had a slightly different centerpiece.  Some tables had tall centerpieces while others had low groupings.  The buffet had 3 beautiful arrangements adorning the presentation.

HH Deserts provided the wedding cake.  The five tier cake had a variety of interesting design components.  Three of the tiers had a lace design mimicking the bride’s dress, while one tier had a Monogram.

IMG_3495 IMG_3493 IMG_3508 IMG_3509

The bride prepared a few items {DIY} that added a nice, personal touch to the event.  She purchased four large pillows and had them embossed with the wedding date and their married names.  We placed them on a couple of sofas located in the venue.

IMG_3476 IMG_3484

She also prepared a sign that we hung above the Candy Buffet that said “Love Is Sweet”.  She also created adorable Favor bags which were brown paper bags that she attached a hand-dyed doily and labels on to.  They were perfect for the rustic theme.

IMG_3527 IMG_3524 IMG_3525 IMG_3523 IMG_3499 IMG_3490 IMG_3489

A huge hit for the gentlemen was the Cigar Station.  The bride’s father purchased cigars which were placed on a table out on the terrace.

DJ Fernando of Lethal Rhythms provided the entertainment for the evening.  He kept the crowd energized all night long!!!

IMG_3552 IMG_3551

The evening ended with the couple departing through a Sparkler send-off to their waiting limo which took them to the after party before delivering them to their home where they celebrated their first night as a married couple.

We enjoyed working with these clients and wish Erin & Tim a lifetime of Happiness!!!

Love Among the Fishes for Ashley & Daniel

Posted in Weddings tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 11:29 am by JBEvents

What a beautiful venue and setting for the wedding of the adorable couple, Ashley & Daniel!!

The day began with the ladies having hair and make-up services while enjoying a tasty brunch at the W Hotel ~ Downtown.  Once the ladies were all beautified, they loaded up and headed over to the Georgia Aquarium where they got dressed.  The bride wore a gorgeous gown by Augusta Jones, while the bridesmaids wore floor-length black gowns that were very elegant.

The photographer, Robin Nathan, had fun taking photos of both sides of the wedding party using the many different backgrounds found at the Aquarium.

Separate sessions for signing of the Ketubah were held since the couple didn’t want to see each other until the ceremony.

Your Event Solution provided the décor for the wedding.  The personal flowers were gorgeous and since the bride didn’t want to use floral décor in the reception – the use of the flowers in the ceremony really made them stand out.  The focal point of the ceremony was a stunning Chuppah of branches and twinkle lights.  It looked magical!!!

Allegro Strings provided the music for the ceremony and the Cocktail Hour.  As always, they were wonderful.

The reception décor consisted of various crystal décor pieces ~ crystal trees, branches extending out of crystal filled vases and crystal chandeliers.  The bride wanted unique centerpieces without florals, and these crystal pieces provided  just the perfect look.

The ambient lighting was provided through Active Productions.  They did a wonderful job in matching the color scheme desired by the bride and the look in the room was beautiful.

The meal consisted of several courses including a pre-selected choice of entrée of filet  or salmon.  In true Wolfgang Puck style, the food is prepared fresh and plated up to be served immediately.  The servers actually stand in a line ready to whisk the plates away as the Chefs precisely place each food selection on the plate.  The final course was a warm chocolate cake which was the dessert course and that was before the Wedding Cake was served.  This was definitely a “sweet” wedding!  Later in the evening, guests were offered their choice of several varieties of cake flavors from the Wedding Cake provided by Mark Brickman of The Baker’s Man.  The couple had bobble-heads made in their likeness which adorned the Cake Table and were a huge hit.

The Atlanta Showstoppers, led by Glenn Carvin, kept the crowd on their feet all night long!!  Their energy was infectious and the guests had such a great time dancing to their music.

As guests were leaving, they were treated to a Candy Bar buffet that we provided.  Favorite candy varieties of the couple and their parents were offered.  There were Malted Milk Balls, Sour Patch Kids, Jordan Almonds, Skittles, M&M’s, Hershey Kisses, and Gummie Bears.  As one of our additional services, we provide the vessels, scoops and custom candy labels.  Clients can select the varieties of candy desired, and we will order the appropriate quantities.  Guests always love having a Candy buffet and they will leave your wedding with sweet reminders and memories!!!

The couple departed to a waiting limo provided by Atlantic Limousine and still had huge smiles on their face because of the amazing celebration of their new life together!!!!

We were so happy to work with this family in planning this fabulous wedding and were pleased to produce another flawless event!!

We wish a lifetime of Happiness to Ashley and Daniel!!!

Mazel Tov Shelby!!!

Posted in Other Events tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 10:08 am by JBEvents

Shelby loves New York City, so it seemed only fitting for her Bat Mitzvah to have a New York City Theme for her Extravaganza!

The first order of business was to select a venue that would enhance a New York City feel and immediately The W Hotel ~ Midtown came to mind.  We secured Altitude {the ballroom on the 27th floor} as the venue.  Since the room offers views of the city on both sides of the ballroom, that would lend to the feel of the Big Apple.

Working with the extremely talented, JWilbur of EventScapes, a division of CCP Events, the decor was devised in meeting with Shelby’s New York City theme.  Wilbur offered wonderful suggestions for bringing the city design into the room.  There were two large gobo’s that shown on the back walls depicting famous landmarks such as The Statue of Liberty and the New York City skyline.  Each table on the adult side of the room was covered in the hotel’s standard black spandex linen and topped with a luxurious silver overlay.  The centerpiece consisted of a square base filled with flowers out of which came a street sign indicating famous cross-streets in NYC.  Shelby determined some of her favorite locations in the city and those became the table names for the adults.

On the “kids” side of the room, the look was more of a club feel, with lounge seating, a few cocktail rounds with seats and a few highboy tables.  These were treated with the hotels black spandex linens and topped with hot pink overlays.  Cube vases filled with hot pink roses enhanced the look of these tables.  To fully show the NYC theme, Wilbur created a large sign that had the name of the event:  “Shelby’s New York City Extravaganza” complete with the New York city skyline and more of the famous landmarks.  The sign was outlined in lights and enhanced with swags of fabric to create a stunning focal point.

As with most Mitzvah’s, the party began with the kid’s having some time partying without the adults present.  They were feasting on yummy hors d’oeuvres such as fried cheese, mini pizzas, and pigs in a blanket.  Meanwhile, the adults were not being left out.  They were having an adult-only cocktail party on the 2nd floor of the hotel in the area called Away.  It’s a semi-private area that worked perfectly for the purpose of a cocktail hour.

At the appointed time, the adults were whisked away and delivered to the celebration which was already in full swing.  As the guests exited the scenic glass elevator, they found their table assignment cards on a lighted round table which was centered with a tall decor piece that held a rotating Yellow Taxi Cab adorned with Shelby’s name.  The table assignment cards were replica’s of New York City Metro (subway) cards.  Robyn Feinberg of RSVP provided the stationery products for the event and as always did a superb job!

The family entered the event in grand fashion.  Once Shelby was announced and the whole family was front and center, a long-time family friend offered the Motzi.

Dinner for the adults consisted of a dual entrée of a beef filet and salmon or for those wishing for a more vegetarian option, salmon and pasta. The kids feasted on chicken fingers, mac & cheese, salad, and other tasty goodies.

To add a fun twist to the desserts, both the adults and kids were offered a dessert display that would provide options to tempt every tastebud.  And what would a New York City themed event be without Black and White cookies?

To keep the fun going throughout the night, the incredible team from Vibe provided the entertainment.  These guys definitely know how to throw a fun party — not just for the kids but for the adults as well.

Jenni Girtman was the photographer of record for the event capturing all of the fun times.  She also provided a Photo Booth station where guests could select various New York City backgrounds for their GreenScreen photos.  Kids and adults had such fun trying out all of the props AND the different backgrounds.

Can you ever have enough sugar at an event? We didn’t think so, so we provided a Candy Bar.  Shelby selected her favorite types of candy which included, Malted Milk Balls, M&M’s, Skittles, Mike&Ike’s, and Sour Patch Kids.  We provided the complete set-up including the custom labels for the containers in keeping with the color and theme of the event.

As the time came for the guests to depart, they were treated with adorable and functional favors of PJ bottoms which also were emblazoned with the logo of the event. There were a HUGE hit!!! (I think the adults were sad that they didn’t get a pair).

Judging by the smiles from everyone as they left, this was another fabulous and FLAWLESS event and we were so pleased to be a part of it!!!
