A Look Back at the Great Gatsby Inspired Wedding of Annie & Stephen!

Sometimes you reflect back over events that you have produced and just can’t seem to get enough of them.  Such is the case with the wedding of Annie & Stephen earlier this year.  The theme of their wedding was The Great Znoskey – a combination of their names which was a take-off from the movie, The Great Gatsby.  From the Save The Dates all the way through the labels on the Favors, the theme was used.  One of the best ways to make your event unique is to brand it and then carry out the theme so that when your guests see any items relating to the event, they know it’s yours and will associate the branding to all of the memories they take away from the celebration.

The vendors who worked to create this gorgeous wedding were:

Planner:  Janice Blackmon Events

Church:  Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Hair & Make-up:  The Moore Agency

Floral Designer:  Ann Potter

The Great Znoskey aka Annie & Stephen’s Wedding!!

Posted in Weddings tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 8:00 am by JBEvents

It was such a pleasure to work with this family and assist with the planning of the 1920’s inspired wedding!  The selection of the venue was important for many reasons, but being able to carry the 20’s theme out with the surroundings led us to one of my favorite hotels, The Georgian Terrace.  With it’s rich history and stunning architecture it was the perfect backdrop for the wedding.

Giving a nod to The Great Gatsby, the couple titled their event The Great Znoskey – which not only set the tone for the theme, but was a cute play on their last names.  The bride even had shirts embroidered with the logo which they wore for many of the pre-wedding festivities as well as during hair and make-up!

Keeping with the 20’s theme, Annie choose a hairstyle that was perfect for the time period as well as her dress.  The Moore Agency provided the Hair and Make-up and did such a wonderful job {as always}.  All of the ladies looked lovely.

Heidi of Our Labor of Love was on hand to capture the amazing images throughout the day.  She was such a pleasure to work with and I think you will agree the images are stunning!!  Her team also provided the Photo Booth {Smile Booth} which was a HUGE hit during the reception.

The ceremony was held at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus {formerly Sacred Heart}.  This is such a beautiful church.  The detail inside is so intricate and exquisite.

One of the brides sisters created the Bridal bouquet which was made of vintage brooches and white feathers.  It was fabulous!  Ann Potter created the floral decor for the wedding.  The bridesmaid bouquets were styled with White Anemone’s and white roses and each bouquet had a vintage brooch incorporated into the design.

As the couple exited the church, they were greeted by a vintage car complete with a Rumble seat. The couple climbed aboard and departed for the reception.

Guests arrived at the Georgian Terrace Hotel, and were treated to delicious Hors D’oeuvres and cocktails while the finishing touches were completed on the Ballroom.  The guests were informed of their seating assignments with Escort cards that looked like old shipping labels.  Each card had a vintage styled key attached with a delicate ivory ribbon. The Guest Book was a coffee table book on the Art Deco era – perfect for the theme.

At the appropriate time, Guests were invited into the Grand Ballroom where servers greeted them with flutes of Champagne.  The Father of the Bride welcomed everyone while the Bride and Groom observed the crowd from the Balcony.  At the end of the Father’s welcome, he toasted the newlyweds as guests turned to see them waving from the Balcony ~ with the Groom properly attired in a Top Hat and stole.

A delicious buffet was enjoyed by all in attendance and once the guests were full, they took to the dance floor and danced the night away to the  music of  Bogey and The Viceroy’s.  The band was excellent and the guests kept the dance floor full all night long.

The beautiful cake was provided by For Goodness Cakes.  The designs decorating the tiers were a continuation of the designs used in the stationery suite.

The Smile Booth kept guests entertained by posing with a variety of props – including boas, crowns, Viking helmet, glasses, as well as long strands of beads and pearls, feather hats and other fun items.  Some guests enjoyed the props so much, they kept them on for the rest of the evening.

Annie had a dress change mid-way through the reception.  We snuck her out so that she could change into a true 1920’s Flapper dress.  It was a gorgeous dress, heavily beaded and was perfect to carry through the theme.  She also have a vintage ivory sequined coat she wore when they departed.

After all of the dancing, guests had worked up an appetite and to satisfy that need, they were treated to Hot Dogs and Hamburgers from The Varsity.  What a huge hit!

When the night drew to an end, the couple made their way to their waiting car amidst the cheering crowd raising sparklers to wish the couple well.

There were so many beautiful touches all throughout the event!!  I hope that you will enjoy viewing more photos from the celebration.  Special thanks to Heidi of Our Labor of Love photographers for providing the majority of the images in this post with the exception of a few snapshots I took during set-up.

We wish a lifetime of happiness to Annie and Stephen!!!!!  Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your most special day!
