BBQ, Friends & Fireworks for the 4th of July!!

Posted in Other Events, Planning Tips and Information tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 9:30 am by JBEvents

Summer is the perfect time for grilling and spending time with friends, but the 4th of July seems to be the official Day to Grill of the Summer Season.

Whether you are hosting a party at your home or celebrating at the lake or beach, I want to share a few ideas on decor, menus, and even cute outfits!

If your party will be outside, making sure the area is comfortable for your guests is important.  If the celebration will last into the evening, make sure to incorporate lighting into your decor plans.  Using candles is an excellent way, but you could also string lights around the perimeter of the party area.  It’s also a good idea, especially in the south, to provide bug spray for your guests, so they don’t get bitten by mosquito’s.  You could have citronella candles placed around or even oil torches filled with the citronella repellent.

Do as much of the preparation ahead of time as possible, so that you can spend the time with your guests.  If you will be grilling, prepare the meat ahead of time with any seasoning or marinade and then keep chilled until time to put on the grill.  If you will be serving the meal outside, remember to keep any food items containing mayonnaise chilled until right before serving and then put back in the refrigerator immediately after the meal to avoid spoiling.

As your guests arrive, greet them with a beverage.  Something fruity, like a pink lemonade spritzer garnished with blueberries would be appropriate and keeping with the Red, White & Blue theme.

Plan ahead to have music playing.  You could hire a DJ, or if using your own iPod, create a perfect 4th of July Playlist.  There are so many songs that relate to the patriotic holiday as well as other songs that just have an underlying Americana theme.  You can gear the music to be a little more sedate during the meal, but ramping up to full dance party after.

4th of July Playlist

If kids will be at the party, having activities to keep them entertained is important.  Having them work on a themed craft when they arrive that can later be used for additional decor is a great idea.  Perhaps have poster board and markers along with crepe paper, stickers, glitter, etc., so that they can make signs and banners for a Kid’s Parade.

For the kid’s and adults, have a photo booth type of area set up where guests can take a photo to remember the fun celebration.  Having a backdrop that keeps with the theme would be wonderful and definitely a conversation piece.

Setting the table could be as formal or casual as you like.  There are some great tableware pieces available ~ some even at your local grocery store ~ or if you have white place settings, then adding in the color with the napkins and glassware would be easy.  Or if you prefer not to have dishes to deal with after the party, then use disposable serviceware.  You can certainly find themed items at your local party supply store, but choosing solid color plates, napkins, cups and plastic utensils works just fine.  Use a festive “firework” place card to indicate your guests seating assignment.  If you are having a buffet, you could use small metal pails to place the utensils in for guests to grab as they go through the line.  You can also keep beverages on-ice in a large metal pail so guests can serve themselves.  Just make sure to keep it replenished throughout the party so the beverages stay cold.

The menu can consist of whatever you desire, but there are some items that just scream 4th of July – like Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, BBQ Ribs or Hot Wings.  Add in sides to please the gang like Potato Salad, Baked Beans, Grilled Corn on the Cob.  For dessert, there are a ton of options that go along with the patriotic theme, from a bowl of berries, to red, white & blue ice cream, to cakes, brownies, cupcakes all decorated for the 4th to homemade Popsicle’s or homemade star-shaped ice cream sandwiches.

As important as the decor and menu is what you will wear!  The location of the party certainly dictates what is appropriate, but keeping with the theme of the 4th {Red, White & Blue, Stars & Stripes, etc} just makes you feel more festive!!!

Whether you decide to shoot off fireworks yourself or you go to a fireworks display – in my mind, there is no better ending to a fabulous 4th of July!!!

However you choose to celebrate the 4th, we wish you a Safe and Happy 4th of July!!!

Sign for hashtag Four Seasons Hotel ~ Atlanta Bright and Early on the wedding day, the team from Formal Faces arrived to make all of the ladies more beautiful than they usually are.  The bride wore her long tresses in a half-up, half-down style with gentle curls falling past her shoulders.   The Beautiful Bride Touching up the lips before the ceremony.   The girls were adorably dressed in matching, monogrammed robes  – a gift from the bride.  This made for some cute photos!  Before it was time to get Jessie in her dress, the girls and the mother of the Bride participated in a toast to the new Mrs. to be! The girls Empty glasses = missing Bubbly Popping the Bubbly! Cheers! Cheers to the Bride! Once the toasting was complete, it was time to get Jessie into her dress.  The dress she selected came from Sweet Elegance Bridal salon.  The designer was Allure.  The gown was ivory and the style was a fluffy ballgown which was very princess like.  Her cathedral-length veil had delicate lace detail and swarovski crystals. Reshmi & Aleksander tie the Knot and the Thali!!

Posted in Weddings tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 12:00 pm by JBEvents

It was a lovely luminous day on Sunday, May 4, 2014 and Reshmi and Aleksander were just minutes away from making their lifetime covenant to each other. The ceremony would take place at St. Alphonsa Catholic Church in Loganville, GA with more than 200 guests in attendance! This Syro -Malabar Catholic Church was established in 2006 and Reshmi & Aleksander’s wedding would be the first ever held there!

View of Sanctuary Ceremony

To start the day off right, we had to capture the gorgeous sunlight with some photos by Heidi from “Our Labor of Love”. The bridesmaids with bouquets in hand arrived first in their short, midnight blue dresses. Reshmi arrived shortly thereafter looking stunning in her all white gown bejeweled with beautiful crystal embellishments, and a yellow sunflower bouquet that was to die for!

After photos, Reshmi was tucked away in a private location so Aleksander and his groomsmen could take their pictures and not run into each other. The guys were handsomely dressed in dark grey suits with yellow ties and groomed to perfection. Once their photos were complete they began seating guests for the ceremony.

Groomsmen The Guys

The ceremony was charmingly decorated with yellow and white ribbons tied along each row of pews, and a trail of yellows roses up and down the aisle. Not to mention the wonderful religious statues throughout the church. This eccentric Indian-Catholic wedding was full of harmonious songs, elaborate traditions, and inspirational readings.  During the ceremony, Aleksander was careful as he tied the Thali around Reshmi’s neck and covered her with a breathtaking Sari adorned with intricate beading and threads. Reshmi and Aleksander also took communion with each other and lighted unity candles with their parents to solidify their bond. Love was clearly in the air and each guest was attentive as Father Matthew led the ceremony with grace from beginning to end.

Upon conclusion, the bride and groom took more photos and then boarded their black stretch limo for their reception at Little Gardens. Overall, everyone was overjoyed with the wedding celebration and was impressed with our assistance and professionalism. Another flawless execution for Janice Blackmon Events, and an unprecedented success for their church, literally!

Botanical Bliss for Katie & Brandon

Posted in Weddings tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 8:48 am by JBEvents

One of our beautiful Spring weddings took place at the Atlanta Botanical Garden!  The adorable couple, Katie and Brandon, were such a sweet couple to work with and their wedding day was just spectacular!!

Fish in the Garden ~ Shari

Starting the day off in her family home, Katie, her Mom, Grandmother and sister had their hair and make-up done by the talented team at Authentic Beauty.  Once complete, we loaded them up in the shuttle provided by Atlantic Limousine and headed to the Renaissance Hotel to pick up the bridesmaids.  From there it was time to head to the Atlanta Botanical Garden!

Katie selected her beautiful wedding gown at Bridal’s by Lori and had alterations done by the amazing Rodica Lazarian!  The bridesmaids dresses were lapis colored from David’s Bridal.  They all looked lovely.

Unfortunately, the weather was not in our favor for the day, but even so, Shari Zellers, used her creativity to find beautiful areas to take the pre-ceremony photos while keeping everyone as dry as possible.  She did a fantastic job!  When the Groom and his groomsmen arrived, we kept them tucked away until the bride was safely hidden and then Shari had a great time photographing the guys.

The ceremony was performed by a close friend of the couple which made for a very intimate and truly custom ceremony.  The Groom, who is a journalist wrote the ceremony and then the couple wrote their own vows.

The stunning decor was provided by EventScapes.  The vision was to enhance the feel of the Botanical Garden without overpowering it which was done by keeping the design in a natural state with elements like birch, driftwood, and moss.  The arbor designed for the ceremony was one of the most beautiful ones I have ever seen.  It was created with twisted willow branches with floral touches and greenery.  Lush pomander balls with deep purple flowers decorated the aisle.  The reception decor was fabulous.  The Head Table had a long and lush design mixed with candles of varying heights.  The linens of moss-green and eggplant further enhanced the look of the room.  The draping behind the band made for an elegant presentation while providing a lovely focal point.

The Amati Chamber Ensemble provided the ceremony and Cocktail Hour music.  This group never disappoints.  They make the entire process from hiring/Contracting until playing the last note of their performance so easy for the client.  Sarah Paul is so accommodating in working with each client to make certain that the musical selections are just what they want for their special day.  These musicians are top-notch in every area and we love working with them.

Another one of our favorite vendors to work with, PPi, provided the sound system for the ceremony making sure that all guests were able to hear the couple saying their vows.

A Divine Event provided the delicious southern-inspired meal which guests truly enjoyed.

Getting the reception started included the Bride’s Father welcoming all of the guests and then the Grandfather of the Groom offering the Blessing.  The couple had their first dance followed by the always special, Father/Daughter dance!

The beautiful and delicious wedding cake was provided by Mark Lotti of Classic Cheesecakes and Cakes.  The cake was cheesecake and guests were seen going back for seconds and thirds.

Shari Zellers provided her Photo Booth which is always a hit with guests.

We were so excited to have the Rupert’s Orchestra providing the entertainment for the evening.  As always they know how to get guests out on the dance floor and partying all night long.

Some friends of the couple have a band, so as a special treat to the guests and in honor of the new Mr. & Mrs., they performed several songs!

The clients treated their guests to transportation from the three host hotels to the venue and back to the hotels since many of the guests were from out-of-town.  Atlantic Limo provided our transportation all weekend long and was such a huge help in making sure that everyone was where they needed to be in a timely and professional manner.

We were so happy to assist this wonderful family with the wedding plans and we wish Katie and Brandon a Lifetime of Happiness!!
